Puligny-Montrachet Cuvée Bernard Clerc

PDF

Region: Côte de Beaune
Village: Puligny-Montrachet
Level: Village
AOC: Puligny-Montrachet
Grapes: Chardonnay
Color: White

Tasting

The first aromatic notes reveal already a fine Burgundy wine, with a floral and complex nose (almond, white pepper). Mouth with tension and precision, with a solid backbone that ageing will structure and reveal.

Food matching

Springtime salad with shrimps, aioli, chicken breast in creamy mustard sauce with mushrooms.

History

This cuvée comes from a donation in 2017 by Mr. Bernard Clerc, retired vigneron from Puligny-Montrachet where he owned a significant wine estate. The traditional generosity of the Burgundians is thus clearly as alive as ever in the 21st century.
The cuvée comes from two plots in the climat “les Reuchaux”, on the Meursault side of the village, the vines being planted in 1968 and 1969. Together they comprise 18.96 ares. This is the first donation of vines in Puligny-Montrachet for the Hospices de Beaune.

Terroirs

Les Reuchaux, 0,19 ha.

Saint-Romain Cuvée Joseph Menault

PDF

Region: Côte de Beaune
Village: Saint-Romain
Level: Village
AOC: Saint-Romain
Grapes: Chardonnay
Color: White

Tasting

Pale yellow colour with green tones. A lot of precision in the nose (lime, hint of grapefruit), followed by a mouth where finesse and intensity combine. The altitude of the terroirs allow it to keep its fresh minerality throughout, defining a beautiful Burgundy.

Food matching

Oysters, octopus salad with coriander, grilled fish, thai spicy soup.

History

This wine is named after a generous benefactor, Joseph Menault, who donated vineyards to the Hôtel-Dieu in 1992. All the vines needed replanting, and this took place in 1994 (le village haut) and 1998 (Sous la Velle). The village of Saint-Romain is situated in a precipitous cleft of hills, just west of Meursault. Over half of this Cuvée comes from a steeply-sloping vineyard, Le Village Haut, located above 400 metres, near the highest point of Saint-Romain. The balance comes from Sous la Velle, 50 meters lower down. Previous vintages tasted display intense perfume, raciness and minerality.

Terroirs

Le Village Haut 0,43 ha.,

Sous la Velle 0,33 ha.

Meursault Cuvée Loppin

PDF

Region: Côte de Beaune
Village: Meursault
Level: Village
AOC: Meursault
Grapes: Chardonnay
Color: White

Tasting

This cuvée has a fine pale primrose colour, full of energy. With attractive fruit and flowers together on the nose, this has the full-on density of classic village Meursault, with a sense of the nuttiness which will develop with time in bottle. The acid balance is just right too.

Food matching

Traditional gougères, mussels in creamy sauce with hebs, grilled fish with fennel.

History

Several members of the Loppin family made gifts to the two establishments: Hôtel-Dieu and Hospice de la Charité. Jéhan Loppin, Archdeacon, in 1656 received Queen Christina of Sweden on the square in front of the Collegiate church of Beaune. Two years later, he pronounced a harangue to Queen Mother Anne of Austria with her son, King Louis XIV, le Roi- Soleil, who signed his name in the book of the Confrérie du Saint- Esprit, at the Hôtel-Dieu. A part of this Cuvée comes from Premier Cru (Les Cras), the other half from village level Les Criots. The Premier Cru Les Gras vines date from 1980. 0.2 ha. of Les Criots were planted in 1997, the balance (0.36 ha.) in 2009.
