The Hospices de Beaune, a gem of heritage and a top-level Burgundy wine estate

The Hôtel-Dieu is a remarkable historical monument, founded in 1443 in Beaune, the wine capital of Burgundy.  A ‘winemaking’ hospital with an outstanding 60-hectare vineyard estate, the Hospices de Beaune has been part of our heritage for over five centuries.

The Domaine des Hospices de Beaune puts every year in November following harvest 50 wines up for auction. These come from prestigious terroirs, mainly in the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. Vinified by the talented winemaker Ludivine Griveau, these wines enjoy a well-earned reputation for excellence.

Each November, the famous Hospices de Beaune auction is the highlight of the Trois Glorieuses and its festivities take place in the centre of Beaune. The Hospices wines from renowned Climats in prestigious appellations such as Beaune, Pommard, Meursault and Mazis-Chambertin are ‘great wines for a great cause’.

The “auction inside the auction” of the Piece du Président is a key moment, where a very special barrel of fine wine is sold at the highest possible price to the benefit of one or two charities under the hammer of local or international celebrities.

Albert Bichot, a great Maison and number 1 buyer at the auction for 20 years

THE HISTORY OF A GREAT FAMILY-OWNED HOUSE, IN BURGUNDY SINCE 1831

The wines from the Hospices are of great sentimental and financial value. The support, at every stage of the process, of a trusted expert, with deep roots in the Burgundy region and possessing an intimate knowledge of the terroir and the secrets of these fine wines, is not just valuable, it is unique.

Find out more about Albert Bichot, the prestigious family-owned wine company founded in 1831, owner of over 100 hectares of vines in several iconic domaines.

ALBERT BICHOT AND THE HOSPICES: A CHARITABLE TRADITION SINCE 1876, NUMBER ONE BUYER AT THE AUCTION FOR THE PAST 25 YEARS

Albert Bichot first participated in the Hospices de Beaune auction back in 1876!  We have been buying these great wines for a great cause for ourselves or on behalf of our customers, using our proven methods, each year for over 150 years. Participating in this important Burgundy wine world ritual each year is therefore a long-standing family passion.

For us, it is not just a question of being able to use our exceptional savoir-faire, we never forget the charitable vocation of the Hospices auction. We are proud to have aged the famous ‘Pièce du Président’ (also known as the Pièce de Charité, the charity barrel), the proceeds of which go to various charities, on 6 occasions.

THE AGEING OF THE HOSPICES WINES BY ALBERT BICHOT: A VERITABLE ART!

We have been the top buyer at the auction for 20 years. Each year, on average, we taste, select and buy more than 150 barrels at the auction, which we then age in our cellars on behalf of our trade customers and wine enthusiasts from around the world.

MYPRIMEURS : EXCLUSIVE ALBERT BICHOT WINES, SOLD EN PRIMEUR

RECOGNISED EXCELLENCE: OUR HOSPICES WINES, AMONG THE BEST IN THE WORLD

Our exceptional savoir-faire when it comes to crafting these fine wines is internationally recognised: we know how to carefully age these wines to enable them to develop their full potential.

For example, the Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru Cuvée Madeleine Collignon, which we acquired at auction in 2016 and aged in our cellars, was voted the ‘Best Red Wine’ in the world at the International Wine Challenge 2018.
